This house is an outstanding example of a craftsman-built home in one of Austin’s oldest neighborhoods.  Most of the development took place in the 1920s and 30s.  The client, a true craftsman himself, came to Joe wanting to collaborate on a house project that he could build himself.  Appreciating the arts and crafts movement and being a fan of Frank Lloyd Wright and the Greene brothers, the client wanted a house that represented his ideology and illustrated his craftsmanship.  After completion in 2005, the 2,350 square foot 3 bedroom / 2-1/2 bath home was selected and featured on the AIA Homes Tour.  A few of the features include custom cherry cabinets inspired by George Nakashima, re-used and recycled materials throughout, custom-crafted light fixtures, “Dougong” structural interlocking wooden bracket details, and “custom railing designs incorporating an interpretation of the rising cloud” motif.
